Today finally felt like spring!
Actually yesterday late in the afternoon did too which inspired me to buy a DQ milkshake. Back before DQ sold burgers and were open year round, one fo the sure signs of spring was the re-opening of the Dairy Queen! Ahhhhh! I needed that.
Today I hosted the first "Port Moody Work from home Meet-up" and was glad I did so. I need to add "and surrounding area" to the title as most people actually live in Coquitlam. No biggie. The more the merrier. Anyways, it looks like I will have to have separate morning and evening meet-ups to work for everyone's schedules. My plan is to also add everyone to a "Port Moody Meet-up" page I will create on my website. As I make calls each day, I found it interesting to know what the person on the other end of the phone was doing. Of ten they would say "I work from home". I thought "Why not get these people together as a way to socialize, network and discover all the unique businesses that are being run by people in their pajamas, er, I mean business attire - from the comfort of their home office. A majority of these people left the comfort and routine of working for someone else to take on a more flexible "I call my own shots" career that they love! A "tip of the toque" to everyone who has taken the risk and is making it work.
As most of Port Moody knows, this weekend is the first city-wide garage sale which is the opening act for the coming weeks city spring clean-up. Already neighbourhoods are seeing piles of "junk" being set curbside, which not long ago was "stuff" they had to have. The funny thing is the vultures are already circling. Over the next week you will likely notice an increase in the number of pick-up trucks and vans driving around the neighbourhood, prospecting for gold in those piles of junk. I remember seeing a guy in a van pull up to a house; he dumped the chairs he had picked up somewhere else for the chairs this guy was throwing away! So it wasn't even his junk outside his house anymore! I hate it when I see someone with "my furniture" that they are throwing away while it is still an everyday item for me. Should I be getting rid of that too? It's funny how it works one day and the next its garbage. Thank goodness the expiriy day just happened to correspond with Spring Cleanup week!
There will be a lot of old chairs, scraps of wood, exercise equipment, lamps, books and electronics tossed aside. Hopefully they can be re-used and it would be nice if the other stuff could be recycled but I think the majority just gets tossed in the trash and its out of sight and out of mind, which is too bad.
If you are a garage sale guru, I hope you find the treasures in the trash and I hope you take note of any particular home having a garage sale and tossing out lots and lots of stuff, they may be thinking about selling. If so, I'd appreciate a call...604-New-Home!
Have a great day and enjoy the spring weather.
Slurp. Ahhhh...
